“Because Of The Children Green river Vol. was incorporated in 1958 by the citizens of the Green River Community after a house fire that claimed the lives of two brothers that lived in the small mill village of the community. The tragic event provoked the idea to establish a fire department in the heart of the Green River Community, with the fact that there were only 3 departments in Henderson County, that were all the 20-minute drive to our area. The community came together and began raising money through donations, auctions, bake sales, and community dinners, to purchase fire engine and build a station donation of land by a community member. Since the beginning we have progressed with the changing fire district and the community which we support. Green River has Broden from a single 4 bay fire station to 4 stations with 6 full time dedicated employees and a group of hardworking part time employees, that operate and answer the calls for service in the 49 square miles the department covers. This why our motto is “Because Of The Children” for the children that lost their lives in our community, “Because Of The Children” is why are department is still strong today.
